MPS MP5520 Power Loss Protection IC | SSD Backup Power Management Chip
MPS MP5520 is a power loss protection management IC designed for high-efficiency power management in enterprise and datacenter solid-state drives (SSDs). It integrates multiple functions in a compact monolithic converter to ensure reliable operation during power interruptions — making it suitable for systems that need robust energy hold-up and protection.

Key Features & Description
1.Wide Input Voltage Range
• Designed to operate from 2.7 V up to 16 V.
2.Integrated Dual E-Fuses (Current-Limit Switches)
• Provides two input current-limit switches (“e-fuses”) with low on-resistance (RDS(ON)).
• Each e-fuse limits input current and blocks reverse current, protecting the system against voltage faults.
3.Bidirectional Buck-Boost Converter
• Manages energy storage and delivery between the input and backup storage capacitors.
• Increases (boosts) or decreases (bucks) voltage as needed to maintain power during an input source loss.
• Only one external inductor is required, keeping solution size small.
4.Energy Storage & Hold-Up Support
• Backup energy is stored in high-voltage capacitors.
• During a power loss, the bidirectional converter releases stored energy to the system, maintaining operation through a controlled hold-up time.
5.Power-Sharing Converter
• A separate bidirectional converter allows power sharing between the e-fuses.
• Configurable modes include boost power-sharing and buck power-sharing.
6.Monitoring & Reliability Features
• Internal ADC monitors input voltages, currents, and power for each channel.
• Includes health monitoring for the storage capacitor to ensure long-term reliability.
7.Soft-Start Function
• Prevents inrush current during system start-up.
8. Compact Package
• Available in a QFN-37 (5 mm × 6 mm) package.
Typical Applications
• Enterprise SSD power management
• Datacenter storage systems
• Backup power protection circuits
