Compared to traditional voltage-variable attenuators (VVAs), the MITEQ attenuator employs a digital-controlled attenuator (DCA) architecture that enables highly accurate and repeatable attenuation levels through discrete digital steps. The DCA achieves switching speeds 10 to 20 times faster than VVAs by utilizing cascaded SP2T PIN diode switches configured for zero-insertion-loss paths. This design ensures monotonic and predictable attenuation performance across the operational bandwidth, effectively eliminating the nonlinearities and calibration drift commonly associated with VVAs.
Although DCA-based designs typically entail higher manufacturing costs, increased insertion loss, and potential video leakage, the MITEQ attenuator integrates built-in video filtering to mitigate such issues and comply with strict leakage specifications. Furthermore, the minimum achievable attenuation level is approximately 0.5 dB, reflecting a high degree of precision in amplitude control.
Optimized for operation across the 2–18 GHz band, the MITEQ attenuator supports reverse logic control and is well-suited for plug-in module applications. All models are equipped with standard RF connectors to facilitate ease of integration and field operation. Performance parameters—including frequency range, maximum attenuation, insertion loss, and VSWR—are summarized in the accompanying data table, providing users with comprehensive information for informed model selection.
